A Christmas Haven by Cindy Woodsmall and Erin Woodsmall

The Book ✯✯✯✯

It is Christmas in July over here, people, and I am LOVING it. This novel came at the perfect time when I needed a peaceful, calm, and reassuring happily ever after read.

The Woodsmall women deliver another sweet Amish read, and while it is an aptly Christmas themed book do not let that keep you from reading it at any time of the year. Most of the novella takes place within the fall months. It is a coming of age and romance all in one as we follow multiple points of view throughout the story.

Ivy was an oxymoron in that she was a progressive Amish woman wanting to plan parties and wasn't sure how the Old Ways would fit into her love of spreading joy.  Her sister, Holly was intelligent and worked within the system to help the Amish community while also breaking Old Order ways and was the perfect foil to Ivy. Arlan was perfectly swoon-worthy. A doting brother on a pregnant-out-of-wedlock little sister, he was the final member of the characters that struggled with identity in the faith and how rules and regulations fit with the grace of Jesus.

The characters were fleshed out and the story was as deep as it was fresh in the Amish fiction genre.  I thoroughly enjoyed cuddling up to this one during the stormy afternoons and couldn't wait to get back to it and finish it when I had to take a break.

Thank you to Chelsea Woodward and Waterbrook for this free ARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are mine alone.

  1. Though I have read about the Amish, Amish fiction and their lifestyle is entirely new to me. I might give this a chance. Thank you for the rec.
