The Book
✯✯✯✯
In a sweet and warm novel, Gabhart introduces us to the Frontier Nursing Service in the Appalachian Mountains and the colorful people that live there.
It is first and foremost a setting story. Focused completely on making you fall in love with the hills of Kentucky and the mountain people that inhabit them. In this sense, it does a perfect job. Taking place just after World War II's end, we follow the points of view of Francine and Ben. Through their eyes, we also get to witness their slow burning romance and the organic way true love comes about--no fanfare, no over-dramatizations, and a focus on life as a whole.
This is a comfort novel at its finest, and I can image it is the perfect lazy, cold weekend read. However, I was so disappointed that it just ended. There were so many questions about where things would go to the point where it feels like it should be a duology. Even with this glaring issue, the comfort and easy escape makes this a worth-while read.
Thank you to NetGalley, Ann. Gabhart, and Revell for a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
I really like cozy setting stories. They just make me feel so happy!
ReplyDeleteMe, too! Like read while the leaves turn and a coffee in hand.
DeleteI love comfort stories. They're good for the soul.
ReplyDeleteYes! Particularly with a nice quilt and a fire, but it's still too warm to do that!
DeleteI get annoyed when stories just end like that, I want closure and everything tied up with a pretty bow ;)
ReplyDeleteIt was TERRIBLE! I thought I was going to get a cute epilogue and I flip the electronic page to a promo for another book. I was crushed.
DeleteSound like a lovely book.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read this but I love descriptive settings! I do hate when I end up with more questions than when
ReplyDeleteI started the book.
Maybe not more questions this time around. Just no closure.
Deletecomfort novels are the best to read at night with chilly environment haha, sounds great novel!
ReplyDeleteOh it annoys me to death when there's no solid ending. I always end up making my own little ending in my head or I'm annoyed for days lol
ReplyDeleteSounds like a cozy read, though the ending should have some closure! :)
ReplyDeleteI want to read every book you feature, but I'm so far behind on blog posts. Maybe on my next vacation, I can sneak in a novel.
ReplyDeleteYou're so sweet! Every Friday is a "booking your weekend" post designed to remind you that they are finally out since most of my reviews are from advanced reader's copies.
DeleteI'm from Kentucky! I should so check this book out!
ReplyDeleteI think you'd love it! My grandfather was from Arkansas, so the Hills still brought smiles to my face!
