The Book ✯✯✯✯
Fast-paced and instantly captivating, Heir of Illaria is one to pick up for any YA Fantasy reader that is in need of a easy, fast, enthralling read. In fact, I've already added it to tomorrow's Booking Your Weekend post. Thankfully for me, the other two books in the trilogy are out and have been instantly added to my TBR--to be read--list.
Etta is a beautifully written young woman. She grows into her own throughout the whole book and slowly realizes her own potential and power without ever seeming haughty or drunk on the power. She was a perfect balance in what anyone would want in a future queen of a war torn country.
Ashton was a swoon-worthy partner and a truly loyal friend. We don't know much about him, though, and I'm hoping that the next few books will start to fill in his lines with some color.
All other characters, including our big baddies, are just...flat. And that's where it lost the star. You don't know enough about any of them besides being used to help tell Etta's story. Just like Ashton, I'm hoping we get more detail in the next books.
Obviously, though, I'm totally set on reading the other books and I've been left feeling like a child asking for more and more and more.
Thank you to NetGalley and Dyan Chick for the free ARC in exchange for an honest review.
