The First Phone Call from Heaven by Mitch Albom

The Book✯✯✯✯✯

Set in modern day times, people in this little town are getting phone calls that they believe are from their dead loved ones. Most people are convinced, but our main character is as much a skeptic about it as I was as I read it. I continually said "uh... right." But you can sympathize with all of them. Who wouldn't want to hear from someone that they loved and is no longer on Earth? Who wouldn't want to hear their voice? Have them tell you that they are safe?

Then you find out that he has lost his wife. And he hasn't gotten a phone call. How terrible you feel for him. But it is sweetly written and shows just how much reality we would ignore to feel connected with people we've loved and lost.

There is a twist and, quite frankly, it shocked me. For days I had a book hangover. I couldn't start any other books because I couldn't stop thinking about the ending of this one.

I completely recommend this book for anyone that wants a quick, simple read that turns out to be not as simple as it appeared.
