Traitor Born by Amy A. Bartol

The Book ✯✯✯✯

I was lucky enough to have no wait between finishing Secondborn and beginning Traitor Born. I am unlucky enough, however, to have to wait for Rebel Born until 2019. That is how unbelievably brilliant this series has become.

Set again in a world divided by "Fates" that echo of The Hunger Games, the world has been expanded on and was fully immersive. With whispers of rebellion turning into roars in the same vein as Red Queen and Red Rising, Roselle knows she wants the world to change and for second and third born children to be allowed equal rights to life and happiness. But with selfish agendas all around her, enemies and friends continue to look like one and the same. Yet by the end of Traitor Born, the real villain unmasks themselves and it was a brilliant move for the plot.

Traitor Born suffers bridge book syndrome ever so slightly, and drug in the very middle. But the first 50% and the last 15% was fastpaced, action-filled, and fully explored.

There were hints at a love triangle, but I have thoroughly enjoyed how Bartol has handled it, and I'm finding myself shipping all three options for Roselle for different reasons. Can she maybe just have them all? Probably not. But who she ends up with will also depend on who Roselle becomes as the world turns upside down.

Thank you to NetGalley, Amy A. Bartol, and 47North for this free ARC in exchange for an honest review.
